A Brief History
On August 3, 1873, our Lord led sixteen men and women, primarily German immigrants, to become the charter members of the Erste Deutsche Baptisten Kirche (First German Baptist Church), meeting at a building on the corner of 13th and Canada Streets in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In 1891 they moved to a new building near Daytons’ Bluff in Saint Paul, and 50 years later changed the church’s name to Dayton’s Bluff Baptist Church. The stained glass in the upper left of this page was originally in the Dayton’s Bluff Baptist Church.
1968 saw ground breaking for a new building in Oakdale, Minnesota, and the first service in this building (this church’s current home) was May 25, 1969. Six months later, the church, no longer being near Dayton’s Bluff, changed it’s name to Redeemer Baptist.
The Lord has blessed this body of believers, and guided us not only through abundance, but also trial - trials like the decision to discontinue German language services many years ago, and more recently struggling with declining attendance. In 1996, with our weekly attendance around 50 people, we began a restart program under our current pastor, Rev. Michael Lerud. With upgrades to our facilities and programs designed to reach the community, over 100 worshippers come together every week to worship in music, prayer, and the Word.
We welcome you to see what the Lord is doing at Redeemer Baptist!
