“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:10-11

The church is an instrument of God. The book of Acts informs, instructs, and inspires us about this living ‘body.’

Acts 6 tells of a time when a complaint arose in the church. Some widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. The Twelve determined that their time was better spent in the ministry of the word of God, so they delegated. Seven responsible men were chosen to handle this issue, so the Twelve could give their attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.

The proposed group was prayed for after being presented to the apostles.

Acts 6:7 then records what happened next with these words, “So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.”

The church continues to meet needs, build up, and grow. I would like to give you an ‘Acts 6 update’ from our church. The information relates to three areas: Elder Fund; Prayer Cards; and Membership Class.

Elder Fund - Our Elder Board has a fund that can be used at their discretion to help those in need. The funds for this account come from the ‘loose change’ in the offering on the first Sunday of each month. Contributions are also collected from those offerings that are designated for the fund. Many needs have been met through your generous giving to the Elder Fund (formerly known as the Deacon Fund).

Prayer Cards - Our Prayer Card is a listing of those who are actively attending our church, as well as shut-ins. The cards are available in the foyer if you choose to pick one up. The hope is to have everyone in the church praying for everyone in the church. Use the card in creative ways to contribute to ‘building one another up.’

Membership Class - A Membership Class will begin at 9:15 a.m. (during the Sunday School hour) on September 19th. The class will meet in the Pastor’s office. A sign up sheet for this class is located in the foyer.

Giving, praying, and being committed were evident in the early church and continue to characterize God’s chosen instrument. Are you a part of the body that is helping the word of God spread?

Keith Green wrote a song called, ‘Asleep in the Light.’  These words come from that song.
The world is sleeping in the dark,
That the church can’t fight, cause it’s asleep in the light,
How can you be so dead, when you’ve been so well fed,
Jesus [...]
