“His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:10-11
How important is the church to you? How important is it for all who are a part of a church to meet regularly and contribute to the well being of the body of Christ? How important is it for the members of the body to be exercising their spiritual gifts in serving the body?
There is a legend of a village in Southern Europe that boasted of a church called “The House of Many Lamps.” When it was built in the sixteenth century, the architect provided for no light except for a receptacle at every seat for the placing of a lamp. Each Sunday night, as the people gathered, they would bring their lanterns and slip them into the bracket at their seat. When someone stayed away, his place would be dark; and if very many stayed away, the darkness became greater for the whole. It was the regular presence of each person that lit up the church.”
The light or strength of the body is greatest when each part is present and participating.
The Apostle Paul said to the church in I Corinthians 12:27, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” Do you feel a part of the church?
The huge redwood trees in California are considered the largest things on earth and the tallest trees in the world. Some of them are 300 feet high and over 2,500 years old. One would think that trees so large would have a tremendous root system reaching down hundreds of feet into the earth. The redwoods actually have a very shallow system of roots, but they all intertwine. They are locked to each other. When the storms come or the winds blow, the redwoods stand. They are locked to each other, and they don’t stand alone, for all the trees support and protect each other.”
Is that a good picture of the church?
You can contribute to that connectedness in our church by being a part of our Sunday evening meetings in October. We will meet each Sunday in October from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the church. We will begin each night in worship and then move to small groups. Our study will be from Philippians. You can pick up the study questions and work on them throughout the week in preparation. We plan to share a meal together on the 1st and 5th Sundays. Meetings 2 through 4 will conclude with a time around the Lord’s Table. Child care will be provided by our Youth.
We are calling this October gathering - “Getting To Know You.” The hope is that the body of believers at Redeemer will grow together as we share in this time. I am asking everyone in our church to participate.
How important is the church to you? ”Getting To Know You” in October provides an opportunity for you to answer that question in a positive way.
